Time Commitment & Hours at emgprd.org

Time Commitment & Hours at emgprd.org #

One of the core principles of volunteering at emgprd.org is flexibility. We are a global, remote team — and we understand that life, work, and other commitments come first.

🕐 How Much Time Do I Need to Contribute? #

There is no fixed schedule — you decide when you work. However, volunteering at emgprd.org is an active commitment, not a passive membership.

Every week, a minimum of 5 tasks must be completed. Tasks vary in complexity and are designed to be fair — ranging from approximately 30 minutes to a maximum of 3 hours each.

📋 Task Deadlines #

Every task — regardless of complexity — comes with a 7-day completion window from the moment it is assigned.

This is intentional: we scope tasks so that 7 days is always a reasonable and fair timeframe.

DeadlineWhat happens
Completed within 7 days✅ All good
Exceeded by 1–3 days (without notice)⚠️ Strike 1
Exceeded by a further 3 days (without notice)⚠️ Strike 2
Exceeded by a further 3 days (without notice)Strike 3 → Contract automatically terminated

Important: If you need more time due to personal circumstances, always communicate this proactively in Slack. Strikes are only issued when deadlines are exceeded without explanation.

However, proactive communication via Slack may be considered in individual cases — it does not automatically prevent a Strike. Repeated deadline extensions, regardless of reason, will still result in Strikes. Communication is expected to be the exception, not the rule.

Note: A single completely ignored task can generate all 3 Strikes on its own and lead directly to contract termination.

⚠️ How Strikes Work #

Strikes are account-wide — they are not tied to individual tasks, and there is a global limit of 3 Strikes across your entire membership, regardless of how many tasks you complete.

Every missed deadline (without notice) can result in a Strike. Once you reach 3 Strikes in total, your contract is automatically terminated — whether those strikes came from 3 tasks or 300.

Example:

  • Task 5 → deadline exceeded without notice → Strike 1
  • Task 12 → deadline exceeded without notice → Strike 2
  • Task 23 → deadline exceeded without notice → Strike 3 → Contract automatically terminated

There is no “per-task reset.” Strikes reflect your overall reliability as a Community Member.

Strikes expire after 3 months of consistent, good-faith engagement — so staying active and communicative is always the best path forward.

📊 How Engagement Is Evaluated #

Beyond deadlines, your overall engagement is tracked through your task activity and documentation. Regular, visible contributions are what allow you to grow within the organization and maintain your Community Member status.

🌱 Going Beyond the Minimum #

We actively encourage Community Members to do more if they want to. This can look like:

  • Taking on additional tasks beyond the weekly minimum
  • Shadowing other team members or departments to observe how things work
  • Cross-functional learning — picking up skills outside your primary role by engaging with other teams in the community

This is not just allowed — it is explicitly welcomed. The more you engage with different areas of the organization, the faster you grow and the more value you can bring to the team.

If you are interested in shadowing or expanding into a new area, simply reach out on Slack and let the relevant team know.
